Thousand Words Thursday: Guilty as charged!

Maybe I read too many novels or maybe I watch too much TV OR maybe I have early onset Alzeheimer's disease! Those are the ONLY reasons I can think of why i did so dismally on the slide unknown quiz on Monday! Okay I know that Early onset Alheizmer's is nothing to poke fun at. Only 5-6% develop symptoms before the age of 65. AND although it has been know to show up between the age of 30-40, this is very rare. Also it runs in families. So highly unlikely. SO do I give up the TV and throw away the books? OR... maybe I have some sort of rare pathology memory deficiency.

If they named a disease after me MAYBE THEN I'D remember it!!!

Yup that's it because I am NOT giving up my novels and the fact that my DVR is almost full tells me THAT is not the problem. SO rare pathology memory disorder it is...

H1N1 vaccine frustrations

Okay, okay I know that eveyrbody else is frustrated about the H1N1 vaccinations also, however I have a dilemma. I am not supposed to get the nasal mist becuase it is a live attenuated form of the virus and I am seeing immonocompromised patients. Yes, here in patholgoy residency we still see patients. We perform bone marrow biopsys, FNAs and this rotation I am in transfusion medicine where about 80-90% are people collecting stem cells for transplantation and are immunocompromised. So I can't get the nasal mist. AND if someone in my family gets the mist they can tansmit the virus to me so they shoul dget the injections. BUT the injections are the most scarce of all. So we have just been waiting for them to become available but then I wonder if I am putting my patients first over me family. Shouldn't I worry about my family first? But then I'd feel really horrible if someone dies because of an infection that I gave them. What to do? And to top it all off Diesel woke up with a cough this morning and I have a sore throat! :-( SO it might be to late already...

Bats,pumpkins, firemen and snake eyes

Okay so the pumpkins have been picked, bought, carved, whittled, decorated and displayed. What's left to do with them? Light them!!! I surely did not do this when I was growing up. But then we didn't have a Jack-o'lantern either but that's another story. So Den's um I mean Snake Eyes' school had a pumpkin lighting. Basically that's when all of the classes decorate a pumpkin or something like that. Usually it's something to do with a book that the kids have read. this year Den's er snake eyes' class decorated a table around the book "Stellaluna".

The Pumpkings

Well we couldn't make it to the pumpkin patch because Diesel and I were waiting at home for Den and Dadhub to come back from a birthday party and the skies just opened up. It's a shame because last year we went to the pumpkin patch and the boys got to pick out their pumpkins and loved it. But Dadhub, being the great guy that he is, went and picked up 2 pumpkins from the market. Since I don't' trust myself or my kids with knives (yeah I know, how do I cut in specimens?- CAREFULLY) we used these neat Mr. Potato head-like things to decorate the pumpkins. They are the same oness we used last year. Den chose the Frankenstein and Diesel chose the pirate because he thought that the Frankenstein was too "Scaweee".
